Based on the fruits of a year-long open call for submissions, the exhibition offered a glimpse into the story of Ireland’s relationship with global human rights challenges over time.
Showcasing the heritage of global citizenship in Ireland, Irish Global Solidarity in 100 Objects uncovers the many contributions, stories and campaigns, expressed through artefacts, letters and visual arts that bring these histories to life.
Items on display include the lead Climate Strike placard used in the May 24th Student’s Strike for the Climate event (May 2019); the UCD student’s union ‘Killer Coke’ campus-wide boycott referendum leaflet (2003), the ‘Drop The Debt’ debt cancellation collaborative quilt (1999) and Richie O’Shea’s biomass-fired cooking stove – overall winner of the 2010 Youth Scientists Exhibition, among many others.
The exhibition ran from Wednesday 26th February to Sunday 1st March 2020 at 16 Clare Street, Dublin 2. D02 TY72 (where Greene’s Bookshop used to be – beside Oriel Gallery near Merrion Square).
Irish Global Solidarity in 100 Objects is organised by developmenteducation.ie, an online hub focused on learning about the unequal and unjust shape of the world today, and is coordinated by Aidlink, Concern Worldwide, the Irish Development Education Association, the National Youth Council of Ireland, Self Help Africa, Trócaire and 80:20 Educating and Acting for a Better World.
