The World in our Classroom: Development Education in the Primary Curriculum

Integrating world issues as part of formal curriculum work has been taking place over many years. This resource, led by educators in Mary Immaculate College, Limerick, is not only part of this tradition, but is part of advancing the integration of development education into the curriculum/teaching specification overall.

This publication aimed to support teachers in the exploration of these issues by pointing to windows of opportunity for development education within each subject area. It also suggests a range of ideas and relevant texts to facilitate this exploration. It sought to provide a rationale for the inclusion of development education in the work of primary school; highlight the opportunities for development education in the primary curriculum and support teachers and schools in planning and implementing a development education programme on a whole-school basis
