It is time for One World Week 2014

The World Young People Want – Connected, Respected, & Empowered

One World Week is a week of youth-led awareness raising, education and action that takes place throughout Ireland during the third week in November every year. During One World Week, young people learn about local, national and global justice issues and take action to bring about change.

 Time to Get Involved!

The National Youth Council of Ireland is DELIGHTED to announce the following key pillars of One World Week 2014:

Mini Grants

Mini-grants for activities and events related to One World Week are now available from NYCI. Grant applications of up to a maximum of €300 will be considered. The deadline for receipt of the application at NYCI offices is Friday 10 October, after which all applications will be assessed. Applications will not be considered after this date.

We want young people to explore their understanding of the interdependent and unequal world in which they live using the lens of the personal, local, national, and global.

Free Training:

NYCI is offering training to those who work with young people and who are prepared to ‘do something’ in the run up or during One World Week 2014. Training lasts for two hours and is designed to give you an understanding of the theme and the confidence to deliver some of the suggested activities with your groups. It is a fun training with a focus on experiential learning.

Who Should Participate?
All those who work with young people are welcome. A minimum of 10 participants is required for each session. Training will be delivered on a first come first served and regional basis so it is important to get in touch as soon as possible to participate.

If you would like to host a training session please contact Valerie by email: deved@nyci.ie  or phone: 01- 4784122

Film Competition

The National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI) is delighted to announce its FIRST EVER One World Week Development Education (Global Youth Work) Film Competition which is being held as part of One World Week 2014.

The theme for this film competition is:

“The World Young People Want: Connected, Respected, & Empowered”

Who is the competition open to?

The film competition is open to youth groups, youth organisations, and schools throughout Ireland.

We want to capture what young people’s views and attitudes are about the interconnected world in which they live – locally, nationally, and globally. We want to hear young people’s views and understanding of what they want for themselves and other young people (in Ireland and throughout the world) in terms of being connected, respected, and empowered.

Closing date for film competition entries is: October 20th 2014

Film finalists will be showcased and winners announced on November 19th 2014 at the National Showcase in the Abbey Theatre, Dublin City Centre.

Supporting Educational Resources:

NYCI has produced resource packs to support this year’s One World Week.

You will find these via https://www.oneworldweek.ie/resources

Specifically, because the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child is 25 years old this year, NYCI has produced a resource to support knowledge and understanding on children’s and young people’s rights in Ireland and throughout the world. This resource pack is available via: https://www.oneworldweek.ie/sites/default/files/SettingOurSightsOnRights2014.pdf

We hope you find all of these resources useful in your work and activity.
