The resource supports teachers to teach the election process across the curriculum. It includes requirements for literacy and students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

The handbook is divided in 6 sections:

  1. The first section Your Vote focuses on parliamentary democracy and the key elements of the constitution of the United Kingdom. It introduces students to the different electoral systems used in and beyond the United Kingdom.
  2. The second section Our Democracy highlights parliamentary democracy and the key elements of the constitution of the United Kingdom. It discusses the role of citizens and Parliament in holding those in power to account.
  3. The third section People Power talks about the different electoral systems used in and beyond the United Kingdom and actions citizens can take in democratic and electoral processes to influence decisions locally, nationally and beyond.
  4. The fourth section Campaigning introduces students to parliamentary democracy and the key elements of the constitution of the United Kingdom, including the role of citizens and Parliament in holding those in power to account.
  5. The fifth section Campaign Planning drives social engagement in classroom with democracy.

The sixth section Democracy in Action bridges the cultural knowledge gap between Britain’s democratic parliamentary system and its central role in shaping our history and values, and in continuing to develop Britain.
