Description

This study highlights the state of political interest and engagement in adolescents and young adults, particularly girls. In partnership with the Department of Social Welfare at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) the report explores the political interest and engagement in adolescents and young adults across India.

With the help of multiple surveys and interviews, the study observed that boys demonstrate a higher political interest and engagement than girls across India and found that girls’ political ambitions stagnate with age, whereas for boys it increases.

The report is categorised into five sections:

  1. The current status of women’s political participation in India.
  2. Gendered political socialization in adolescents.
  3. Gender disparities in youth political engagement.
  4. Key findings on differences in political interest and engagement between boys and girls.
  5. A comparison on political engagement in youth from India and the United States.
